Juli Tsuchiya Photo Exhibition Listen to the silent

Sudden gaps in reality that shake the ordinary

I imagine this happens to other people, too, but I get flashbacks all the time. They just pop up out of nowhere.

In my case, they come as mirages I have been seeing since I was a kid, scenes I recall from my past or bits and pieces from reoccurring dreams. They are for the most part fragmented and very faint at best, but I can’t help feeling that they are somehow an important part of who I am.

For this exhibition, I have juxtaposed photos that recreate those fragmented images with actual landscapes and backdrops to delineate the oddities and boundaries between the real world and the surreal, between what is perceived as normal and what is out of the ordinary and ponder what all of that means.
