The Act on Promotion of Women's Participation and Advancement in the Workplace Sony Corporation's Action Plan
It is in Sony's DNA - and a source of our innovation - to value different perspectives and backgrounds as we conduct our business activities globally and rise to new challenges. Sony promotes diversity across the Sony Group as a key management strategy by ensuring an inclusive work environment and by recruiting, hiring, training and promoting employees from diverse backgrounds.
The following action plan focuses on supporting the success of women in their career development at Sony Corporation.

Period of Plan

April 1, 2016 - March 31, 2020 (5 years)

Numerical Target

Set a target of boosting the ratio of female managers in the workforce to at least 15 percent by the end of FY2020

Description

Goal 1:
Improve workplace environment by creating worker-friendly work environment and supporting career development for all employees, including female
Action
FY2016 -
  • Take measures on shortening overtime
  • Expand telework system toward all employees, which was already existing for the employees of child rearing and nursing their family
  • Set average target day of annual paid leave to be taken as 16 days or more, and take measures to achieve it
  • Expand support systems to balance between work and nursing care
FY2017 -
  • Expand support system to promote more male employees taking paternity leave
  • Share information towards managers to create a workplace environment, which is easily acquired support systems for balancing work and family care by employees
Goal 2:
Focus on continuous fostering female employees to encourage their ability and skills further
Action
FY2016 - FY2020
  • Hold periodical career program for female employees and diversity seminar towards their managers (Starting from FY2013)
  • Hold career development workshops and career network events towards young employees (Starting from FY2007)
Goal 3:
Focus on recruitment activities to increase the proportion of female employees within the company
Action
FY2016 - FY2020
  • Hold continuous recruitment activities for increasing the female applicants: introduce various role models of female employees, increase the meeting or talking opportunities for female applicants and female employees (Starting from FY2013)
  • Hold career events for female STEM* students (Starting from FY2013)
