The Sony Creative Science Award (SCSA) is Sony's key CSR programme in Singapore and this year (2017), we celebrated its 20th Anniversary. Over the past 20 years, 75,000 students have taken part in the competition and over 63,000 toy entries submitted, making SCSA the largest toy-making competition in Singapore.
Students between the ages of 7-12 learn about science and creativity through hands-on experience of creating their own toy. To prepare them for the competition, creativity, technical and communication workshops were held for the students and teachers.
The 2017 award ceremony and exhibition were officiated by Ng Chee Meng, Minister for Education (Schools) & 2nd Minister for Transport. A total of 47 prizes were given out the students and schools, and the top student winners will be brought on an educational tour to Japan in November.
In conjunction with SCSA, we conducted the Sony Science Program and this year, the MESH Workshop was held for the very first time in Singapore. Guided by 12 Sony volunteers, the 33 students aged between 7 to 12 years old had a fun time creating their own invention using the MESH tags developed Sony engineers under the Seed Acceleration Program (SAP). By combining the different MESH tags, the students came up with creative ideas such as a dinosaur story, a treasure box and a dinner party.
