Students visited and documented in the field of,
Public Viewing in Tanzania

In 2011, Sony, in conjunction with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria ("Global Fund") and AMREF, the biggest medical non-governmental organization in Africa, started this public viewing program to increase motivation of participants and encourage added value for awareness events. We did this by using Sony technology and with help from our staff as part of the project to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention being carried out around Tanzania.
As part of YoA, two students participated under the direction of Professor Jackie Murray, and in November 2011, recorded the HIV/AIDS prevention awareness project at public viewings held in Tanzania.

It has been an amazing experience for all involved. The Sony and AMREF teams worked non-stop for 10 days creating a series of six mobile HIV/AIDS awareness events in various parts of the country. The events consisted of a projection and screen (showing educational and entertainment films), live music and dance performance, testimonies from people living with HIV/AIDS and a number of HIV/AIDS testing stations. The idea was to excite the imaginations of a captive audience in order to make HIV/AIDS awareness both fun and effective.
The trip was an uplifting experience which stimulated our minds and hearts. It obliged us to question our own stereotypes and to challenge our mode of production. At the end of the day we realized that its about stepping back, slowing down and using our skills with purpose and meaning as oppossed to merely adding to the curent global visual pollution”
