Sony Implements Changes in Top Management
to reinforce the divisional company structure
and to further strengthen Sony's global operations



Tokyo, Japan - Sony Corporation today announced the following changes in top management aimed at reinforcing the divisional company structure and further strengthening Sony's global operations. These changes will be effective April 1.

1) Semiconductor Company
Corporate Executive Vice President Suehiro Nakamura, currently president of the Display Company, will assume the role of president of the Semiconductor Company. Mr. Nakamura has played a key role in the development of Sony's color television and display businesses, and will bring vast knowledge of the industry and a deep understanding of customer needs.

2) Display Company
Corporate Senior Vice President Masayuki Takano, currently executive deputy president and representative director of Sony Marketing (Japan), Inc., will assume the role of president of the Display Company. Mr. Takano will bring extensive knowledge and experience of the highly technical broadcasting business. He will work to further develop the display business, which continues to advance in technology and increase in importance as it becomes a core element of multimedia applications. Mr. Takano will resign as executive deputy president and representative director of Sony Marketing (Japan), Inc., effective April 1.

Tadakatsu Hasebe, currently president of the Display Company of America, a division of Sony Electronics Inc., will return to Japan from San Diego, California to take up the role of deputy president of the Display Company.

3) Research Center
Corporate Vice President Seiichi Watanabe, currently president of the Semiconductor Company, will assume the role of president of the Research Center. With his engineering background, and experience working in the semiconductor business, Mr. Watanabe will lead the R&D efforts related to fundamental research and technologies.

Corporate Vice President Toshiyuki Yamada, currently president of the Research Center, will become a member of the board of trustees of Sony Institute of Higher Education.

4) Personal and Mobile Communication Company
Corporate Vice President Yutaka Nakagawa, currently deputy president of the Personal A&V Products Company, will assume the role of president of the Personal and Mobile Communication Company. Mr. Nakagawa, who has contributed greatly to the development of Handycam and Digital Handycam, will strengthen and promote the personal and mobile communication business, especially in the areas of miniaturization, high performance, and cost efficiency.

Corporate Vice President Masao Morita, currently president of the Personal and Mobile Communication Company, will assume the executive role of counsellor of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. Details of Mr. Morita's role and title will be announced at a later date. As it moves into the digital and network era, the Japan-based music entertainment company is looking for ways to diversify its business, in order to better adapt to changes in the global environment. Mr. Morita's management experiences at Sony, both in Japan and abroad, will greatly strengthen operations of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc., and help to prepare it for the future.
