The world's 16 best Under 17 women's teams gathered in New Zealand to take part in the first FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Teams from over 100 countries competed in the preliminary competitions. The final competition was aired to over 150 countries and areas worldwide, and more than 13,000 spectators came to watch the action at the stadium. The final was held on November 16 in Auckland, and Korea DPR scored the winning goal in extra time to beat the USA women 2-1 to claim the first U-17 title.
