The sole official FIFA football game tournament in the world. 32 players who have advanced through live and on-line qualifying competitions gathered at the Sony Center in Berlin, Germany, on May 24, 2008, to take part in the finals. Over 20,000 people crowded the Sony Center in Berlin, Germany. This was the largest turnout ever for the event. The final competition was played on EA SPORTS™ game software running on PLAYSTATION®3. 19-year-old Alfonso Ramos from Spain captured the champion title for 2008.
The winner received $200,000 and prizes from Electronic Arts and Sony, as well as a ticket to the FIFA World Player Gala, which will take place this December in Zurich, Switzerland, where he will be honored alongside other world-class footballers with a FIFA Interactive World Player 2008 trophy.
The on-line qualifying competitions took place all around the world from early October 2007 to the end of March 2008 with 25,539 players participating. National champions were born out of the live qualifications held at over 200 venues in 80 countries. Players from 179 countries enjoyed games, music entertainment (by DJs and liver performances), and football events. Local professional football players and celebrities also attended.
