CES2013 Eco Display (Las Vegas)

From Jan 8-11 2013, Sony displayed a number of industry leading eco products and initiatives at CES in Las Vegas. Sony had a number of environmental award winning products on display, including CES Eco Innovation Award winning BDV-N790 Home Theater System with energy efficient Magnetic Fluid Speakers and the DSC-HX20/30V Cyber-shot that incorporate SoRPlas. Also featured for the first time was a BRAVIA HX750 rear cover made from recycled plastics.

Sony Picture's Clean Truck Fleet

Sony Pictures Entertainment(SPE) has updated its fleet of trucks that surpass California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations. SPE has replaced 29 trucks in its fleet with a mix of new CARB-compliant gasoline and diesel models. Beyond these initiatives SPE operates Prius hybrids in its courier department and leases alternative-fuel vehicles for film and television production cast, crew, and executive staff members.

Sony participates in Recycles Day

On Nov 15 2012, Sony Electronics(USA) sponsored a free public consumer electronics recycling event in five US cities in support of America Recycles Day. All brands of consumer electronic items, including televisions, computer monitors/displays, stereos, computers and cell phones, were accepted. Those dropping off electronics at these locations also had the opportunity to win Sony products.

Sony Electronics(USA) honored for SoRPlas

In Nov 2012, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) named Sony among winners of the Innovation in Plastics Recycling awards for SoRPlas(Sony recycled plastic). The Sony Electronics recycling team commented that Sony is "excited to be recognized for developing SoRPlas, a durable resin made from recycled polycarbonate that helps to conserve resources and reduce emissions in the manufacturing process, and we are committed to expanding the use of recycled plastics in our products as research continues."

Sony's Eco Partnership with University (California)

Sony Corporation of America, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Electronics have begun work on a unique environmental partnership with the University of California Santa Barbara called the Media, Energy and Environmental Alliance, which includes several components that span technology and entertainment. Through the program, Sony provides equipment for use by students, and funding for environmental media, teaching and research projects.

California Coastal Cleanup Day(California)

In September 2012, Sony Electronics participated in California Coastal Cleanup Day, the state's largest volunteer activity to help clean up beaches and inland waterways. Around 60 employees, their families and friends from the San Jose and San Diego offices came out to help support the cleanup effort. In addition volunteers removed invasive plant species and replaced them with native plants. All totaled, over 57,000 volunteers collected over 285,000kg of trash and recyclables statewide.

Wheel of Fortune Recycling Event (Portland)

On Mar 28 2012, Sony Pictures and Sony Electronics held an eWaste collection and electronics trade-in event coinciding with the taping of Wheel of Fortune in Portland. A total of 7000kg/7ton of electronics was collected. In addition, attendees of the event were able to interact with some of Sony's eco-leading products such as the resource saving balanced armature headphones (XBA-NC85D), energy efficient Blu-Ray disc player (BDP-S185), and SoRPlas Handycam (HDR-TD20).

From Jan 10-13 2012, Sony displayed a number of industry leading eco products and initiatives at CES in Las Vegas. This was Sony's largest Eco display ever at CES, highlighted by Eco Products that do More with Less energy and resources. Sony Eco initiatives were also featured in the Sony Press Conference.

new "Trade-in and Recycling" website

Sony Electronics(USA) created a new method to make it easier on consumers to trade-in or recycle old or unwanted consumer electronics products for free in a socially and environmentally responsible manner through the below website. It is designed to help consumers find the best way to trade-in or recycle both eligible Sony and non-Sony products for credit towards the latest Sony electronics products.
