Several industry leading eco-conscious Sony products are showcased here, including examples of product-based initiatives from the four Road to Zero environmental Perspectives.
With this Sony portable USB battery pack (CP-A2LAKS), the battery pack you take with you to power your smartphone or other
devices via USB can be charged by hand-cranking. The new manual charging mechanism provides an extra source of energy on
the go or in emergencies, besides offering the environmentally conscious option to use power you generate yourself.

Once charged, the battery provides high-speed output, at up to 1.5 A
Turning the handle of the hand-cranked charger spins the motor inside, charging the USB battery pack. Crank for about three minutes,1 and you can talk for a minute on your smartphone,2 or crank five minutes1 for a minute of web surfing.2 A minute of communication will probably be enough to check critical information in emergencies. Manual charging was carefully designed for an ideal balance between the effort to crank the handle and the amount of energy generated.

Small enough to fit in your hand
The CP-A2LAKS comes with an AC charger that can be plugged into an outlet, a USB battery pack housing a rechargeable Li-ion battery, and a manual charger with a handle for cranking. New in this model is the hand-cranked charger, designed to be as compact as possible despite the printed circuit board and motor generator inside. This enhances portability and reduces the resources used in production.
USB battery pack
The long-life battery pack lasts for about 500 cycles.* Bring it with you, and there's no need to purchase a disposable battery pack if your smartphone runs out of power, which is easier on the environment because fewer batteries are disposed of.

Hand-cranking is a new way to charge this battery pack for powering devices via USB, but the unit also offers other tempting features, such as high 1.5-amp output from a generous 4,000 mAh rechargeable battery pack with two USB ports. Additionally, a portion of sales is donated to the nonprofit Solar Bear Fund, supporting installation of solar panels at nursery schools and kindergartens across Japan.
