Sony Supply Chain Solutions, in charge of Sony logistics around the world, works closely with our product design and production departments to improve packaging and distribution.
In fiscal 2004, integrated packaging was introduced in our international distribution of televisions. Televisions are classified into three basic components: stands, displays, and accessories. Each type of component is shipped separately, in the optimal quantity. After receipt at local business sites, the components are assembled into finished products and packaged for sale. Both shipping costs and CO2 emissions from shipping have been reduced as a result. In fiscal 2005, reusable international shipping containers were adopted in integrated packaging, limiting the packaging that is discarded. This approach of employing reusable containers will be expanded to parts and other inventory in the future.
