Establishment of "Network Connectivity Verification Laboratory (i.LINK)" and "Memory Stick Compatibility Verification Laboratory"

- Institutions Open to i.LINK Device Makers and Memory Stick Licensees -

Inside one of the verification laboratories
(Tokyo, Japan) - Sony today announced the establishment of two new laboratories the "Network Connectivity Verification Laboratory" and the "Memory Stick Compatibility Verification Laboratory" for verifying connectivity among i.LINK devices and Memory Stick products. On June 1, the laboratories will be open to manufacturers of i.LINK-compliant devices and/or Memory Stick-compatible products in the Sony Service Co. Ltd. Heiwajima Building. The aim of these laboratories is to help reduce costs in areas such as product development and verification expenditures and accelerate the development of new products.
Until now, electronic device makers had to purchase consumer products individually to verify connectivity between their own new products and products by other companies. As i.LINK and Memory Stick technologies have been increasingly adopted in a variety of products, the provision of a facility where verification tests can easily be conducted has been requested with growing frequency.
Both the "Network Connectivity Verification Laboratory" and the "Memory Stick Compatibility Verification Laboratory" facilities will be equipped with i.LINK-compatible and Memory Stick-enabled products and provide an environment where connectivity verification can easily be conducted in development of new products. The respective laboratories will be open to i.LINK device makers and Memory Stick licensees. These companies will be able to lease the laboratories and use various i.LINK devices and Memory Stick-compliant products for a nominal fee.
