The Octopus Card is widely used in Hong Kong not only as a transportation ticket but also for e-money services at retail shops, leisure facilities, school campuses, vending machines and other places. It is now an integral part of daily life in Hong Kong.
Started as an e-ticket for the city's bus and subway networks, the card can now be used to pay for transactions at convenience stores. Use of subway tokens is also increasingly being adopted by the people of Shenzhen.
In Delhi, India, a FeliCa-based ticketing system has been adopted for the metro system. One-way tokens are especially popular, as they are easy for passengers to use and are reusable, thereby reducing ticket costs for the operator.
In Bangkok, FeliCa cards and tokens can be used on the subway system.
In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, FeliCa one-way tokens have been adopted for the metro system. They are commonly used by daily commuters and travelers visiting Kaohsiung City.
East Japan Railway's Suica card is now established as the standard for IC card tickets. A mobile phone version, Mobile Suica, is also available. PASMO IC card tickets are accepted by almost all private railways, subways and buses in the Tokyo area and are getting popular. As Suica and PASMO IC card services are interoperable, holders of either card can get around Tokyo with only one card. Both cards can also be used for e-money payment at station kiosks and affiliated shops.
The OSAKA PiTaPa card integrates several services in a single card. In addition to its use as a ticket for municipal and private transport facilities, this IC card functions as a credit card with benefits such as cardholder discounts. By incorporating FeliCa Pocket, the card can also be used for stamp rallies, residence door keys, loyalty point cards/coupons, and membership IDs.
Various customer services such as loyalty points and coupons can be integrated into a card using FeliCa Pocket. Many communities have introduced FeliCa Pocket to combine hospital IDs or transit tickets together with local e-money to attract more users.
