Security Cameras System ICs that
Support 960H CCD Image Sensors
CXD4129GG, CXD4130GG
Sony has now released two new system ICs in the "Effio" Series for high-resolution, high-sensitivity,
and excellent color reproduction security cameras: the "Effio-P" for high-end products and the "Effio-S" for midrange products.
In addition to improving the basic picture quality performance, these new devices also integrate both memory
and a microcontroller in the same package.
In conjunction with the previously released entry-level model "Effio-E"*1, Sony is now providing a full lineup of "Effio" Series
products as a security camera platform.

Horizontal Resolution of Over
650 TV Lines |
|
The "Effio-P" (CXD4129GG) and "Effio-S"
(CXD4130GG) devices, when combined with
an analog front end (AFE: CXD4813GG or
CXD4816GG) IC, form a camera system
that supports 760H and 960H CCD image
sensors. (See figure 1.) These new devices,
especially when combined with 960H CCD
image sensor, can achieve high horizontal
resolutions of over 650 TV lines and can
provide highly detailed images. (See table 1.) |
Built-in High-Performance WDR
and ATR-EX Functions |
|
The WDR (wide dynamic range) function
included in the "Effio-P" (CXD4129GG) is
based on Sony's proven dual shutter method
and includes a refined version of the synthesis
and compression algorithms for improved
performance. As a result, the exposure
correction function for high contrast scenes
has been improved further and cameras using
this device can acquire natural images with
fewer blown out highlights and blocked up
shadows. (See photograph 1.) Furthermore,
these devices include the ATR-EX function,
which features improved calculation
precision over that of the ATR (adaptive
tone reproduction) function included in the
"Effio-E" (CXD4127GG).
These improvements make imaging with
fewer blown out highlights and blocked up
shadows possible, even in exposure modes
that use the single shutter method. |
Digital Image Stabilizer (DIS)
Function
|
|
These devices now include a digital image
stabilizer (DIS) function, which is highly
desired in midrange to high-end models.
This allows the image shaking that can
easily occur when cameras are mounted
outdoors or in higher locations to be
suppressed electronically. It is also effective
at suppressing image shaking that occurs
when zooming in on the subject. |
Built-in Memory and Microcontroller
|
|
The "Effio-P" (CXD4129GG) and "Effio-S"
(CXD4130GG) include both flash memory
for program storage and the microcontroller
that runs the user applications, which were
previously provided as separate chips.
This flash memory can also be used to hold
camera adjustment values instead of the
EEPROM that had been used previously.
Sony also provides sample microcontroller
software for camera developers as a board
support package.
These devices also include the DRAM
required for implementing electronic zoom,
slow shutter, noise reduction, and other
functions.
Not only do these contribute to reducing parts
counts and reducing circuit board area for
lower development costs, but they can also
reduce our customers' camera development
periods as well. |

Mr. Nagataki and Mr. Hirao
|

|
It took a lot of thought and effort,
including revising the control methods, to
make it possible to implement the camera
functions using only internal memory, but
we worked together as a team. We think
that by filling out the "Effio" line we have
made it easier for camera manufacturers
to structure their camera lineups. We
strongly recommend that you look into
the "Effio-P" and "Effio-S" products. |
