Sweet Flag
In Japan, May 5 is Boy's Day. On this day, many Japanese fly carp-shaped
streamers (koi nobori), display Japanese warrior dolls, and present
offerings of rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves or rice cakes wrapped
in oak leaves at the family alter to pray that the male children in the
family will grow up to be healthy and energetic.
There is also the custom of taking baths scented with sweet flag.
While iris sanguinea has mesh-like pattern, iris laevigata has a single
white line, and iris ensata has a yellow line, it is quite difficult to tell
these flowers apart.
