 The graph on the left shows the change in the amount of electrostatic charge after static electricity was forcibly generated by applying voltage to a disc. Without hard coat protection on the disc, the amount of electrostatic charge was hardly reduced after the disc was charged. Sony incorporates a high-performance hard coat on each disc which discharges electricity and as time advances, the electrostatic charge was reduced drastically from the initial stage. Sony’s disc with high performance hard coat prevents the attraction of dust.

These photos on the left show how finely cut pieces of expanded polystyrene adhere to disc after the surface of the discs have been wiped once by tissue paper.
While expanded polystyrene adhered to the overall surface of a disc without hard coat, Sony’s disc with high performance hard coat had virtually no expanded polystyrene adhering to it. This is because there is extremely low electrostatic charge, making it difficult for static electricity to be generated.
