The unit will not be recognized by the computer depending
on the computer usage, such as when:
(1)
the OS does not support the unit. Make sure your OS
supports the unit. For those using Windows 98 SE, prior installation of the dedicated
device driver is required.
(2)
the USB switch of the BIOS is turned off on older PC
models. In this case, refer to the instruction manual of your PC and turn on the
USB function of the BIOS. (Alteration of the BIOS setup is not recommended for
novice users.)
(3)
formatting on the NTFS by another PC. In this case,
Windows Me and 98 SE will not recognize the unit.
Check that the installation of the device driver on Windows
98 SE system is complete. If not, reinstall the driver.
Download the device driver from the attached CD-ROM or by
clicking [Here].Before downloading, create
a [C:\Gigavault]* folder onto the computer's hard drive and then copy the entire
file and folder in the created folder.
Open the Device Manager and if a mark
appears, then delete the device and restart. Reinstall the driver after confirming
the recognition of the GIGA VAULT drive.
Remove the CD-ROM drive after creating a [C:\Gigavault]*
folder onto the computer's hard drive and copying the entire CD-ROM file and folder
in the created folder.
Installation may not be completed properly depending on the
downloaded folder. Create a [C:\Gigavault]* folder onto the computer's hard drive
and then download the entire file and folder in the created folder. Open the Device
Manager and if a mark
appears, then delete the device and restart. Reinstall the driver after confirming
the recognition of the GIGA VAULT drive.
Click [Continue Anyway] and proceed.
*
To ensure smooth installation, create a [C:\Gigavault]
folder in the root directory of your C:drive without using any space in the folder
name.
If the installation process of the device driver still does not work correctly,
download a newer version (Ver1.10) by clicking [Here].
With Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows 98 SE, perform the procedure before
connecting GIGA VAULT to your computer. With Windows XP, do the procedure after
connecting GIGA VAULT to the computer.
(Ver1.10 is an updated version of Ver1.00 aiming to facilitate the installation
process and, if you do not encounter any problem installing the former version
(Ver1.10), there is no need to reinstall the driver. The driver itself is identical.)
When using the device with a USB hub, operation may be hindered
depending on the USB hub used. We recommend that you connect the unit directly
to your computer.

[ Ctrl + Alt + Delete ] keys and restart the PC.
When using a PC with a USB device set to the startup disk
through BIOS, although the GIGA VAULT device is not furnished with any startup
function, the PC will function to startup from the GIGA VAULT device and will
then come to a freeze. In this case, remove the GIGA VAULT device and restart
the computer.
When using a computer with trouble in setup together with
the unit, designate a device other than a USB device as the startup disk using
the computer BIOS. Change the function of the Removable Media to Disable, if applicable.
(Alteration of the BIOS setup is not recommended to PC novice.)
When switching on a computer with the unit connected, Windows

computer with the unit connected is recovered from standby or hibernation. In
this case, restart the computer after removing the unit.
The unit supports USB 2.0 standard (Hi-Speed) that enables
data transfer faster than the USB 1.1 standard. Performance of the portable harddisk
media supporting Hi-Speed USB is fully delivered when using the unit under the
following conditions:
(1)
The unit is connected to Hi-Speed USB connector. (Your
computer needs to be equipped with a PCI adaptor or a PC card supporting Hi-Speed
USB standard.)
(2)
USB EHCI (Enhanced Host Controller Interface) driver
software* is installed on the computer.
(3)
USB cable corresponding to the Hi-Speed USB standard
(included in the product) is used.
*
EHCI driver software is attached to products such as
commercially available PCI adaptor cards supporting Hi-Speed USB. For more information,
check with the manufacturer of the adaptor card used. USB EHCI driver software
for Windows XP system may also be used. Visit the Microsoft homepage for more
detail.
Make sure your computer supports USB 2.0. When attaching
a USB 2.0 extension card or board, operation may be hindered depending on the
type of extension card/board used. Check with the card/board manufacturer in this
case.
The duration of the battery may shorten considerably at low
temperatures due to the battery type. Use of an AC adaptor is strongly recommended
at temperatures below 50F
(10C).
When the unit is connected to a computer, charging stops
when the internal temperature of the unit reaches 113F
(45C)
while charging the battery. In this case, charge the battery after removing the
unit from the computer. Charging restarts when the internal temperature of the
unit is lowered.
Note that you may continue to use the unit without any trouble even if battery
charging stops due to the above reason.
