Besides being a generously sized horizontal display, the Layer Box is an exploration of more sophisticated forms of presentation. This model shows the potential of adding a new dimension to display—depth. We also thought outside the box of standard 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, which inevitably remind us of television. These two themes guided our study of the interactivity of display devices with physical depth, in this case showcasing digital photos. In particular, this design project accounts for how users naturally focus and defocus on objects at various distances, as applied to user selection of information and the primary or subordinate roles of layers. |
