Book Recorder
Special moments between a mother and child when reading books together are captured by these devices. After the device is attached, opening the book starts recording and closing it stops recording. Each device is for one-time use. Opening the book again plays the recording. |

Candle Recorder
Special moments after lighting a candle at a party are captured by these stylish yet unobtrusive devices. Lighting the candle starts recording, and blowing it out stops recording. To play the recording, turn the device over, and to skip to the next recording, rotate it. |

These projects were inspired by a desire to capture the special moments in our lives. Recording is seamlessly integrated in what we do or the items we use at these times. This enables us to preserve these moments in ways that are perfectly natural.
The idea of adding sensors for recording to familiar things we use regularly is an example of "bookmarking" our lives. It seems a viable way for users to access desired content easily without analyzing a lot of information. At the same time, it is an exploration of how to slip this kind of interaction smoothly into our habits, as well as an approach to capturing desired memories and making them last in our lives.
Inviting users to rediscover the value of sound. Making this value an integral part of the products or devices themselves. These were key themes for our activities during development. Although the devices were initially intended to capture everyday sounds continuously, we subsequently focused on ways to capture only desired sounds (hopefully, good memories) effectively, with a regard for privacy. Gradually, we narrowed the scope of recording while enhancing the precision of these models. |
